Computer Classes

Critical Path offers FREE computer classes, from beginners to intermediate technology users!
Classes offered included beginners, intermediate, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, blogging, and workforce development.
In addition to valuable job and computer skills, you will get 2 SEPTA tokens at the end of each session, a certificate of completion at the end of class, and a graduation party.
Please read the class descriptions below, so you know which class is best for you.

Introduction to Computers and the Internet (Computers 101)
This is a fun class to help anyone learn computer basics.  You will learn how to use email, search the Internet, and understand computer hardware and software.  In addition, we will teach you how to stay safe online and protect your privacy. Through hands-on exercises and discussions, you will learn about the role of computers in today’s world and find the ways that they will be useful to you.

More Computers and the Internet (Computers 102)
This class is a more advanced computer course. It is highly recommended to start with Intro to Computers and the Internet  if you consider yourself a beginner. This course is a fun course that helps any learner become more comfortable with email, files, and the Internet.   We also cover more up-to-date online applications, such as cloud computing and social media.  Through hands-on exercises and discussions, students will practice the previously acquired computer and Internet concepts.

Introduction to Microsoft Word
This class is good for exploring how Microsoft Word can be used for everyday needs. Lean how to create from scratch or use MS Word templates write letters, make flyers and build resumes.  Upon completion of this class students will feel comfortable using the software through hands-on exercises and discussions.

Blogging and Social Media
Through hands-on exercises and discussions, you will learn the basic concepts that are required to create your own blog, and find the ways that they will be useful to you. We will explore how people use blogs, ideas to create your own blogs, and available blogging tools. In addition, we will discuss blogging in different settings such as business, communication, the arts and other segments of society. Also, you will be able to learn to use social media venues for communication, with other people with things in common. For safety purposes we will discuss additional relevant subjects, such as privacy settings and security will be discussed.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel
This class is great if you want to learn the basics of creating spreadsheets using MS Excel. Learn how to make a budget, use Excel as a calculator, use some basic functions, and create graphs and charts! Upon completion of this class students will feel comfortable using the software through hands-on exercises and discussions.

Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint
This class will teach you how to make engaging slide show presentations using MS PowerPoint. Learn about creating slides, using animation, images, and sounds. Upon completion of this class, students will feel comfortable making a captivating PowerPoint presentation for a wide variety of audiences.

Workforce Development
If you need help writing a great resume and cover letter that gets you noticed by employers, this is the class for you.  During this class we will give you the tools needed to interview, understand job descriptions, research potential employers, and become an irreplaceable employee.  In addition, students will leave with both hard copy and digital copies for their new resume, cover letter, and thank you letter for future updates and changes.  You must have some basic computer skills to enter this class.

Introdution to Microsoft Publisher
In this class you will learn the fundamentals of MS Publisher. During this class students will learn proper page set up, tools and all functions of MS Publisher. Students will also work on class projects of choice. For example students will have the opportunity to flyer, business card, and banner or event invitation. You must have some basic computer skills to enter this class.

Blogging
Blogging is a course that gives anyone the chance to highlight a special hobby, personal story or intrest though creative writing. Students can elect to make blogs public or private and share blogs with classmates! To enroll in this class you must have taken a Microsoft Word class.

Classes typically meet 1-2 times a week, for a month. Our morning classes are 10:00-12:00, and afternoon classes are 2:00pm – 4:00pm.
