New Spam Policy
Dear Critical Path Email Users:
You may have experienced some problems with your email in recent days. In order to address this issue, Critical Path is moving away from its McAfee spam filter and moving to a program called SpamAssassin.
Although we are moving to a new spam filter, the amount of spam that you receive is directly related to how long you have had your email address, how many people you have given it to (including when you sign up for services on a web site), whether your address is published on many web sites, and other factors that Critical Path can't control.
At Critical Path, we have tried to have our hardware and software “guess” which messages are spam and then try to delete them before they come to you. This is pretty expensive for us to do and still doesn’t always work perfectly. For many people it works very well, but sometimes this system can accidentally block important messages related to health information or other information that you want to receive, such as mass emails from activist or advocacy organizations regarding important campaigns.
***For this reason, Critical Path has decided that it will not block or delete any mail. Every message sent to you will be delivered to you. Every message sent to you will be tagged in the subject heading with ***SPAM*** if SpamAssassin thinks that it is spam.***
WHAT THIS MEANS:
- You may notice that you will receive more spam. This is because we are tagging it but not filtering it out before it gets to you.
- You can set up a filter in your email to help reduce the amount of spam that comes in your inbox. Instructions for how to filter your mail are posted at www.critpath.org.
