People,
I had to change Dan's subject line, because I am sitting here with tears in my eyes as I read the saga of email after email which Maggie, our "Uber-WebMeister" has so skillfully woven into a web page.
I just can't refer to ANYTHING "evil" right now. This is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen a computer help to accomplish.
One person, one story, one message, one small step at a time, we have all helped CHANGE THE WORLD these past few weeks. I am truly overwhelmed by what Dan's challenges have done to inspire this wonderful group of net-dads, prima-mammas, digital queers and cyber-huggers to action and to support.
I stole my subject line from a NY times Op-Ed page column by the wonderful Anna Quindlen from April 1993, just after the March on Washington for Equal Rights. She said, (and I paraphrase), "one person at a time, we become visible, step into the open, and the ice of a closed mind begins to break. After all is said and done, the numbers don't really matter. It's the power of one that changes the world."
Dan now has that power. I am so moved, and so happy and so proud of each of us, but especially of Dan, who may have taken this giant step by himself, but has done so with a chorus of supporters, cheerleaders, guardian angels and friends, remote geographically, but as close in spirit as any souls could ever be.
Thank you Dan, for allowing us to help. Please don't stop asking.
Thank you all, for showing me that there is a part of each of us that can triumph over the petty, the mundane and the day-to-day to reach down inside ourselves and help one another, when we need it most.
Regards from Austin,
Steve
