These Are a Few of Our Favorite Lists

The following lists, and their websites (except for PFLAG-T-SON) are independent. They are not managed or monitored by National PFLAG, but by the list-owners and webmasters.

pflag-talk@youth-guard.org. Unmoderated. Owner: Steve Basile, Austin PFLAG. Pflag-talkers have established an online-helpline for response to private messages that come in through the website.

Straight Spouse SupportWebsite: http://www.ssnetwk.org. Associated with PFLAG and the Family Pride Coalition's Straight Spouse Network (SSN). Support and understanding to individuals and couples coping with a spouse who is gay, lesbian, bisexual, or considering the possibility of a bisexual relationship. The SSN coordinates numerous mailings lists:

Internet mailing lists for spouses and/or partners or children Associated with the Straight Spouse Network (SSN). The SSN, formerly known as the Straight Spouse Support Network, is an international support network of heterosexual women and men, formerly or currently partnered with gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered mates. Members provide confidential personal support and information to spouses and children across the United States and abroad. SSN is the only support group of its kind in the world. An outreach, the network provides information about spouse and family issues and support resources to other family members, professionals, community organizations and the media.
- The Spouse Support Mailing List (SSML) is an Internet mailing list for straight spouses and their bisexual, gay, or lesbian partners who are trying to keep their marriages intact and for keeping the relationship positive for those couples who are separating and divorcing. The List also includes couples where one is bisexual and the other gay or lesbian and where both are bisexual and working through issues in their relationship. Membership is confidential.   The STR8S Mailing List is an Internet mailing list for straight spouses of bisexual, gay, or lesbian partners who are trying tokeep their marriages intact and for keeping the relationship positive for those couples who are separating and divorcing. The Str8s List is not moderated; it is a closed list so that only straight spouses will be members. The subscription list is private. To subscribe to STR8S:

  The Spouses Out To Their Spouses (SOTTS) Mailing List is an Internet mailing list for bisexual, gay, or lesbian partners in mixed orientation relationships who are trying to keep their marriages intact and for keeping the relationship positive for those couples who are separating or divorcing. The SOTTS List is not moderated; it is a closed list so that only lesbigay spouses will be members. The subscription list is private. To subscribe to SOTTS:

  Husbands Out to Their Spouses HOTTS -- A support group that helps men who are gay or bisexual as they struggle to maintain their marriages in a positive and open way. Some members are divorced but are welcome as long as they realize what our purpose is. The list manager is owner-hotts@QueerNet.ORG.
  
  The Bisexual Married Men of America (BMMA) is an "unmoderated" email discussion group comprised of bisexual and gay married men. Exchanges are by email, not live, although many men arrange to chat in real time via their own commercial services or IRC (Internet Relay Chat). The discussion topics range from the spiritual, to sexual, to issues that all gay or bisexual married men face. To subscribe to BMMA: majordomo@safersex.org in body: subscribe bmma <your email>.
  
  Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere (COLAGE) provides support and services for and by the children of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered parents. COLAGE can be reached through their home page or their email for more information on their programs. Announcing TWO online discussion groups for kids! These lists are closed so you must have a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender parent to join. They are moderated by COLAGE members. If you are younger than 14 you can join the Kids-of-Gays list by visiting http://www.colage.org/email_lists/kog/sub_form.html and filling out a registration form. If you are14 or older you can join the Kids-of-Gays14 list by visiting http://www.colage.org/email_lists/kog14/sub_form.html.

tgs-pflag@critpath.org. Unmoderated; Owner: Raquel Rice; listserver: listproc@Youth-Guard.org ; website: http://www.critpath.org/pflag-talk/. While most subscribers are transgendered people or spouses, the number of parents is growing. The value of tgs-pflag in developing the Transgender Family Support Special Outreach Network (SON) provides a model for other PFLAG SONs.Volume: 10-20 messages a day. Tgs-pflaggers have established an online-helpline for response to private messages that come in through the website.

schools@youth-guard.org. Unmoderated; Owner: Jason Hungerford, who is 21 and a pflag-talker; listserver, listproc@youth-guard.org; website: http://www.youth-guard.org. The schools list is a spinoff of pflag-talk. The informational posts from GLSEN and the P.E.R.S.O.N. Project are posted to the schools list. This list is recommended as a tool for building PFLAG's Youth SON. Volume: 5-10 messages a day.

The Youth Lists. Moderated; Owner: Also owned by Jason Hungerford, (see description above on schools list); listserver, listproc@youth-guard.org; website: http://www.youth-guard.org/youth/.

The Youth Lists are also a spinoff of pflag-talk.

The premise for the YOUTH lists is to establish an outlet for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, questioning, and supportive youth ages 25 and under to talk with each other concerning such issues as coming out, schools, parents, friends, relationships, and other gay-related and non-gay-related youth issues. The three email lists (YOUTH13-17, YOUTH17-21, and YOUTH21-25) are the first of its kind to offer a conversational/chat/support youth group in an email form. The email lists solve some problems that newsgroups, IRC, and chat rooms have. Email is quick, easy, convienent, and the most accessible. Not everyone knows how to subscribe to newsgroups, or to enter chat rooms, or even have the access capability to do so. But anyone with an email address can have access to this new list.
The YOUTH lists are for youth ONLY. Seventeen-year-olds are given the choice of subscribing to either the 13-17 list, or the 17-21 list, or to both lists. Twenty-one-year-olds are given the choice of subscribing to either the 17-21 list, the 21-25 list, or both lists.

The YOUTH lists have a strict age guideline in order to hopefully solve the problem of older people hanging around in supposed youth forums. The age policy will be strictly enforced on the list. Although there is no absolute way to gaurantee that a subscriber is within the proper age range, if it comes to the attention of the list owner that a particular subscriber is over the permitted age then that subscriber will be immediately removed from the list. The list will try its best to remain youth ONLY.

Subscription requests are sent to the list owner for approval. After sending a subscription request, the list owner will send you a copy of the list's general rules and guidelines. Upon notification of your agreement to abide by the rules and guidelines established for the list, you will be subscribed to the list. Again, this may seem like a lot of red-tape, but is for the protection of the subscribers and for the integrity of the list to remain youth only

religion@critpath.org. Unmoderated; Owner: Chris Purdom (Chris and Barbara Purdom coordinate the Interfaith Working Group-IWG); Listserver: listproc@critpath.org; Website: http://www.libertynet.org/~iwg/.While its purpose is demonstrating religious support of equal justice for GLBT people, the religion list is also an excellent all-purpose advocacy list.Subscribers receive relevant messages from Channel Q which identify opportunities to write letters to editors, nationwide. Subscribers receive relevant posts from the ACLU, The Interfaith Alliance, and the Reverend Mel White. The IWG provides a constant flow of model letters. This list should be used as tool not only for PFLAG's Interfaith SON but also by the Advocacy SON. Volume 10-20 messages a day.

Laura Montgomery Rutt, Director, Alliance for Tolerance and Freedom. The religion list has put me in touch with a clergy member in Lancaster, Rev. Edwin Yates, that has attended an Alliance meeting, brought others, and is going to be helping me and a rabbi in Lancaster to build a clergy network similar to the Interfaith Working Group. The religion list also put me in touch with a nearby town newspaper reporter that did an interview with me about same-sex marriage.

Kimberly Lyle-Wilson, President, Atlanta Freethought Society. I am a bisexual, atheist, woman living in Atlanta, and president of the Atlanta Freethought Society. I am Consulting Editor of the AFS newsletter, which is where I do most of my re-printing and editorializing on related topics.
Basically, I use this list mostly as my own Religious Right Watch resource. I have:
1. Written, called and faxed my national legislators (pointless, since mine's Newt).
2. Contacted other organizations to ask for certain information.
3. Forwarded information to friends who have specific interests in certain issues, such as DOMA.
4. Printed short articles in a newsletter about various topics discussed on this list, such as DOMA, ENDA, the Baptist Disney fiasco, etc.
5. Passed along statistics that support other issues.

PFLAG-T-SON

This list is part of the PFLAG Transgender Family & Friends Support Network, (PFLAG T-SON) which was launched formally in 1996 as part of PFLAG's Special Outreach Networks. Providing safe space for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered youth has been established by the PFLAG National Board of Directors as a priority for 1997. PFLAG National is not responsible for postings or comments that may be made on the list.
This is a list for people who want to discuss the ways and means to support transgendered people, their family and friends through

support -- developing resources, including but not limited to: support groups, hardcopy and web publications, a network of contacts for referrals

education -- a) of pflag chapters about transgender issues and b) of the transgender community about resources developed by the PFLAG T-SON

advocacy -- on behalf of transgendered people and especially transgendered youth.

PFLAG-T-SON is an unmoderated discussion list, and is provided as a safe space to discuss controversial issues with respect.

PFLAG-T-SON is not a support list. Those seeking support for issues pertaining to transgendered behavior and families are advised to seek out tgs-pflag. Information on tgs-plfag can be obtained from Raquel Rice, or in the previous sentence's link.

PFLAG-T-SON is open to all who desire to join. The only requirement is that those joining understand both the nature and the mission of the list.

Although list membership is public, all subscription requests must be approved to protect the safety of this space. Any list member who posts personal attacks of other list members, or hate-filled drivel of any sort, will be immediately removed from the list and barred from future participation in this group. In this matter, the judgement of the list owner shall be final.
