Camp #1 - July 3rd to July 16th Camp #2 - July 17th to July 30th

 

The intent of the Center for Creative Activities is to bring a varietyof people together to work for the good of the local community and topromote understanding and peace throughout the world. This is anexcellent opportunity to get together with others, learn new skills,teach and instruct other individuals and have fun at the same time. Itis a part of VIS - Volunteers for International Solidarity – whichendeavors to build meaningful world peace and cooperation.Philadelphia is the birthplace of the USA, which has more than 100 nationalities living peacefully and productively. The city has the largest inland port and the largest urban park in the world.

 

Project: Renovation of volunteer residence, community center and theoffice of VIS, which is at the final stage. Also helping the mostneedy local residents with their basic needs and with their buildings. Accommodation: Will be in two rooms in our building. Volunteers willcook for themselves. We have an outdoor Jacuzzi in our yard and an outdoor pool nearby. Bring: Clothes for hard and dirty work in hot weather. Bring asleeping bag, musical instrument and a desire for world peace.

Camp # 2 is the eighth annual camp being held in memory of our friendand former patron Michael Riley. __________________________________________________________________________

 

How to get to the camp: If you are flying into Philadelphia take theairport train to the city and get off at Market East station. Walk toMarket St and get any bus going east or walk up to 3rd and Market Stsboard bus # 57 going North for about 1 km. Get off at 3rd andFairmount Sts., walk west two blocks to 5th & Fairmount St to 635 and633 N 5th St.

 

If you are flying into New York take the airport bus to the New York42nd St Terminal. Take the bus to Philadelphia for a two hour drive from the Greyhound bus station ( 11th and Filbert St ). Walk to Market St (1 block ) and follow the above directions.

 

If you land in Washington, DC, take the bus or train to Philadelphia.If by train, the train arrives at Market and 30th St. Take bus orsubway east on Market to 3rd Street, then follow instructions above.Bus arrives at Greyhound Station. Follow directions above.

Extra: We welcome people of all ages, all interests, variedexperiences and backgrounds, but cannot accept people with alcohol ordrug problems. Workers will need patience with and love for children,openness to all races/social classes and cultural sensitivity.
